Committee Chairs


The Board of Directors are elected by the membership to 2-year terms.  Half of the terms end in even-numbered years and the other half in odd-numbered years.

Virginia Dennehy, Ph.D., Lic Psy; Diplomate
Board of Directors, President

Virginia Dennehy is a diplomate in process psychology and a licensed psychologist, practicing body  psychotherapy in a private practice setting and teaching somatic psychotherapy (body/mind/ spirit integrative psychotherapy) in several masters and PhD programs in the state of California. She also serves on the Academic Council and is chair of the Ethics Committee.  Term ends 6/30/09.

Paul Briggs, MSW, LCSW, LMT
Board of Directors, Vice President, Conference Co-Chair

Paul C. Briggs joined the Board in 2006.  Since 1996, he has worked in both the public and private sectors in the areas of Substance Abuse, Mental Health, and Healthcare.  As both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Massage Therapist, Paul enjoys working within South Florida communities, providing education and therapeutic services.  He also serves on local boards of NASW, SunServe, and FSMTA.  Term ends 6/30/08.

Laurel Thompson joined the Board in 2007.  Term ends 6/30/09


Jacqueline A. Carleton
Board of Directors, Treasurer

Jacqueline A. Carleton is also the founding editor of the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal.  Jacqueline has maintained a private practice in psychotherapy in New York since 1976, and is a senior faculty member of the International Core Energetic Institutes and the Snowlion Centers in Switzerland and France.  She is also a consultant to ProHealth Care Associates, Department of Neurology and Integrative Pain Medicine in New York  Term ends 6/30/10.


Mary J. Giuffra, Ph.D.
Board of Directors

Mary J. Giuffra has been a Board member since 1998. At that time she was elected Vice President and has continued to serve in that capacity. She is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, is co-editor of the journal,  and co-chairs the Academic Council. An Academic and college administrator, Mary has been in private practice for 30 years and is licensed and board certified in advanced practice psych/mental health nursing and certified in Marriage and Family Therapy, Core Energetics and Somatic Experiencing.  Term ends 6/30/09.


Greg Johanson, Ph.D.
Board of Directors

Greg Johanson was first elected in 2004 and serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee.  He is a Founding Trainer of the Hakomi Institute, editor of the Hakomi Forum, co-editor of the Journal of Self Leadership, and on the editorial committees of the Journal of Pastoral Care, and the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal.  He is Clinical Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University, and Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Counseling at Drew University.  A Pastoral Psychotherapist and Licensed Professional Counselor with degrees in psychology, philosophy, and theology, he practices in Chicago.  Term ends 6/30/08.


Alice Ladas
Board of Directors

Alice K. Ladas, Ed.D., MSW, joined the Board in 2000 and serves as the Research Committee Chairperson.  A pioneer for body psychotherapy, educated childbirth, breastfeeding, and sexuality education, she is co-author of the NY Times best seller The G Spot and Other Discoveries About Human Sexuality.  Her life long passion has been to discover what creates desired outcomes and then to act on that information.  Term ends 6/30/08.

Kathleen Scheg, JD, LCPC, NCC
Board of Directors

Kathleen Scheg joined the Board in 2007.   Term ends 6/30/09.
